Gynecomastia is essentially an over-development of male breast tissue and is usually a self-diagnosable condition. The aim of gynecomastia surgery is to remove the excess fat and glandular tissue and restore the male chest to a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Does insurance cover gynecomastia surgery?

Typically our plastic surgeons recommend you wait until the age of 18 years. If significant gynecomastia is affecting an adolescent’s life, surgery can be performed.

How many days do I need to take off from work after surgery?
The recovery period will vary from patient to patient. Typically, most patients will be able to return to work within one week. If you work in a physically demanding position you may need to take over a week off from work. Your surgeon will discuss your post recover for your unique case during your consultation and what is to be expected during your consultation at the NYC Gynecomastia Center.
You may qualify as a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery if you:
- Are unhappy with over-developed male breasts
- Your breast development has stabilized – usually over the age of 18
- Are in overall good health
- Are near a stable weight
- Simply desire a more contoured masculine chest
Will the development of male breast tissue come back after surgery?
Usually no. However, male breast development can still be enlarged by steroid usage, or other drugs, and weight gain. Gynecomastia revision surgery is offered by the board certified plastic surgeon at the NYC Gynecomastia Center.
What does male breast reduction surgery entail?
Male breast reduction surgery (gynecomastia) can be performed by the plastic surgeon via liposuction, surgical removal of breast tissue, or a combination of both.
Maintaining A Relationship With Your Plastic Surgeon
Should you elect to move forward with gynecomastia surgery, any questions regarding your surgery will be answered in advance. After surgery, you will return to the NYC Gynecomastia Center office for follow-up care at prescribed intervals, at which time your progress will be evaluated.
